Melanesia Music Veteran Ben Hakalitz Supports Bougainville Artists

Bougainville Voice X-Plosion finalists were privileged to be mentored by an internationally respected local artist and veteran of Melanesian music, Ben Hakalitz.

Mr. Hakalitz coached these talented finalists in preparation for the grand finale of the BVX competition, 2024.

“Be your own person, employ your own style and create something for yourself,” said Hakalitz.

Ben expressed his passion for promoting indigenous music and nurturing local talents while he was coaching these contestants.

He added, “We are a tough breed of people and we need transformation of mindsets.”

During a workshop facilitated by Wantok Musik Foundation, Mr. Hakalitz encouraged the six contestants to embrace their unique styles as artists.

As a professional artist with over 40 years of experience, Hakalitz advised the contestants on the importance of an artist communicating with their audience. Ben’s expertise in the music industry enabled him to tutor these young music enthusiasts, educating them with the crucial elements required from a performing artist.
