The Bougainville Youth Federation (BYF) has successfully concluded a three-day induction and safeguarding training for its newly elected Executive members, following their election at the Annual General Meeting held on the 2nd and 3rd of December 2025 in Tsiroge. The induction was attended by Chairman Michael Dave, Secretary Austin Gagesin, Treasurer Selina Mondu, Vice Chairman Dicklee Perea, Vice Secretary Lilly Baiwa, Vice Treasurer Ethel Golu, and Central Representative Matthew Jnr Duaku.
The training provided the new leadership with a comprehensive understanding of the BYF structure and its alignment with the Bougainville Youth Policy. Key areas covered included safeguarding practices and their importance in youth engagement, grant agreement compliance, and awareness of fraud risks within the organization. With support from the facilitators, the Executive team also developed their annual activity plan, outlining priorities and intended outcomes to better serve young people across Bougainville.
The induction concluded with a formal handover-takeover ceremony, where outgoing Chairman Joseph Pake Pais and outgoing Treasurer Lorraine Rowaro officially passed leadership responsibilities to Chairman Michael Dave and the new Executives. As the new Executive assumes office, they are committed to strengthening youth development initiatives and ensuring the voices of Bougainville’s young people are effectively represented throughout the region.
