In the heart of Tinputz District, a small yet powerful movement is taking root, championing sustainability and self-reliance. Spearheaded by the Tinputz District Youth Association, young individuals in the community are turning their horticultural practices into thriving small-scale enterprises.

One of the most significant contributions of the youth group has been the development of marketable products derived from local horticulture. Pineapples, a staple fruit in the region, have been transformed into a variety of products, including fresh pineapple juice and rich, flavorful pineapple jam. By tapping into the potential of their harvests, the youth have not only reduced their reliance on external markets but have also begun providing quality local products to their community.

Youth member Lydia Billy is an innovative individual who started creating multiple products from a single fruit harvest.

“I started with pineapple, harvesting the fruit then extracting its juice, and finally boiling the remains through due process to create the jam,” she said.

“Although I am still new at this, I have found myself a source of income and I am proud to say that my creativity promotes sustainable living.”

The pineapple juice, made from the freshest fruit, has gained popularity for its refreshing taste, while the homemade pineapple jam is quickly becoming a favorite on local breakfast tables. These products are being sold locally, with the profits reinvested to expand production and enhance their farming techniques. The youth association’s efforts demonstrate how resourcefulness and local agricultural knowledge can be leveraged to create products that people are eager to purchase, making the district youths more self-sufficient.

Through creativity, innovation, and a deep connection with their environment, these youths are not only improving their economic standing but also fostering a model for sustainability that could be a beacon for other regions.
