In another remarkable step toward self-reliance, many members of the Tinputz community have decided to stop purchasing imported cooking oils, which often come at high prices and are imported from distant regions. Instead, they are turning to local, sustainable sources of oil. The dried coconuts that grow abundantly in the region have become a valuable resource, with community members extracting their own homemade cooking oil.

The process is straightforward but requires dedication and a deep knowledge of the local agricultural environment. By drying coconuts and pressing them to extract the oil, locals are producing an essential kitchen staple right at home. This initiative not only reduces costs but also eliminates the environmental impact of transporting commercial oils, which often involve significant carbon footprints.

According to a community elder, she quit using imported oils several years ago after realizing how simple and cost-effective it was to make her own cooking oil at home. "Once I understood how easy it was to produce my own oil, I stopped spending money on imported oil," she shared. "It’s healthier, cheaper, and more sustainable." This elder’s testimony serves as a powerful reminder of the untapped potential of local resources and the wisdom that comes from traditional practices.
