BYF Participates in 2026 CIMC Reset@50 National Forum
The Bougainville Youth Federation (BYF) was among more than 100 participants who attended the 2026 Consultative Implementation Monitoring Council (CIMC) Reset@50 National Development Forum in Port Moresby.
Held at Dr. Momis Hall at the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG), on the 8th-10th of September the three-day forum was held under the theme, “Unpacking the Reset@50 Agenda – What Must We Do Better in the Next 50 Years.”
Prior to the National Forum, BYF also participated in a Government and Civil Society Dialogue on the 7th of September, bringing together civil society organisations and government agencies from across Papua New Guinea. The one-day dialogue provided an opportunity to reflect on and validate the past five decades of partnership between government and civil society in PNG.
The dialogue also highlighted the important role of civil society in strengthening citizen participation and ensuring that community voices are heard in government decision-making and national development processes.
The National Forum provided an important platform for participants from across the country to discuss national development priorities, reflect on PNG’s 50-year journey, and identify practical actions for the next 50 years.
A key focus of the forum was the presentation and discussion of 15 consolidated national recommendations, developed through consultations at the four Regional Development Forums held earlier in 2026. These recommendations reflect citizens’ views and aim to strengthen national planning, budgeting and policy implementation.
For BYF, participation in the forum provided an important opportunity to ensure that Bougainvillean youth voices are represented in national development discussions. As the peak body representing youth associations across Bougainville, BYF remains committed to promoting meaningful youth participation in governance, decision-making and development.
The final recommendations endorsed through the forum will be presented to Prime Minister James Marape at the official closing of the forum on 14 September 2026.
